‘Bucket list’ receptacle
This receptacle, or ‘bucket’, was designed to carry an individual’s personal ‘bucket list’: an itemised list of experiences that a person aspired to have before they died.
‘Bucket lists’ were common-place among Oil Age people, with a desire to travel to places across the globe typically at its heart. As a result, international air travel boomed, and the most beautiful and unusual places, even if remotely located, became overrun with bucket-listers from across the world. The most popular places (whether cities, mountains, seas or moors) introduced entrance fees simply to visit and ultimately became theme parks or play-grounds exclusively for the affluent visitor.
Dying at this time was often described colloquially as ‘kicking the bucket’, presumably out of the frustration a person felt if they had been unable to achieve all their goals.
