'Coppertone'

Industrial society admired a golden body. Individuals sought to ‘tan’ their bodies by lying exposed in summer sunshine and anointing their bodies with chemicals and oils (such as those contained in this bottle of ‘Coppertone’) to encourage a golden or copper colouring without the skin becoming too burnt. Gaps in the ozone layer put an end to this practice other than in protective suits by the late 21st century.
