Photographic plastic
Before digital imaging, photographs were taken by briefly exposing a plastic sheet, covered with a thin layer of silver nitrate, to the light reflected from the object of interest. These images were believed to reflect an absolute truth. With no understanding of relative perspectives, wars were fought over differing interpretations. Moreover, because a magnification device was needed to see the detail, it is believed that this reinforced the depth of the truth. Special interprestative skills were needed to mentally convey the negative point of view.
