Sea defence (fragment)

Not yet understanding the resilience of natural sea defences such as saltmarsh and mangrove swamp, and having failed to hold back the sea with rock and wood, Oil Age engineers attempted to use shingle-filled textile bags to prevent coastal erosion. The microplastics from these defences, which inevitably failed, still circulate in our oceans today.
